Due to the size of the country, India's climate varies greatly from north to south. Generally, October to March is the most pleasant time to go, when it's dry and not too hot. For the Himalayan areas, April to September is the optimum time to travel. The monsoon starts at the beginning of June in the south, rapidly travelling north to cover the entire country by about July. Around October, the monsoon is over.
