Steeped in history

Malta’s capital city Valletta is one of three World Heritage sites on the islands. Housing more than 300 monuments in a 55 hectare area, UNESCO dubbed it ‘one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world’. It is renowned for its impressive structures and architectural wonders that date back to times of occupation by Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs and the military and charitable Order of the Knights of St John.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to visit Malta’s other World Heritage sites. Hal Saflieni Hypogeum, an underground complex discovered in 1902 which dates back to 3600 BC, is considered one of the world’s most important prehistoric structures. And Ggantija, the world’s oldest freestanding structure, is thought to precede the Egyptian Pyramids by more than 1000 years.

Malta has an eclectic cuisine with influences drawn from its centuries of occupation and its proximity to North Africa and Sicily.
