Visa & passport
Visitors need a valid passport with a minimum validity of six months beyond the period of intended stay, and do not require a visa for stays up to 90 days. An Indonesian visa is required for Bintan Island and can be obtained upon arrival.

Sentosa Island
Island-resort Sentosa lies just off the coast of Singapore and can be easily reached by ferry, causeway or cable car. In World War II, the island was used as a British military base known as the ‘Island of Death from Behind’. Today its name means tranquillity in Malay and it has been transformed into Singapore’s pleasure island, a themed attraction, tropical resort, nature park and heritage all rolled into one – home to championship golf courses, white sand beaches and water sports centres, as well as a state-of-the-art underwater world and dolphin lagoon and fascinating reminders of the island’s past.
Raffles Singapore Sling
No visit to Singapore would be complete without high tea or a Singapore Sling at the world-famous Raffles Hotel, part of the sprawling Raffles City development. The hotel first opened its doors in 1887 and attracted all manner of famous guests, including Joseph Conrad, Noel Coward and Rudyard Kipling. In the early 20th century, at the height of the colonial years, it developed its reputation for elegance and luxury and it was during this time that the famous Singapore Sling cocktail was invented, by bartender Ngiam Tong Boon. Today a Sling will set you back around AUD30!
Shopping on Orchard Road
Often referred to as the Fifth Avenue or Champs Élysées of Singapore, Orchard Road is a shopaholics delight with sprawling shopping centres and stores packing the length of the road selling all manner of goods from clothing and electrical to the best of South-East Asia’s handicrafts and more. Many of the malls are currently earmarked for a multimillion-dollar revamp, and in the next few years the plan is to add huge music and cinema venues to the area to provide a one-stop shopping and entertainment destination. Always busy with hordes of tourists and locals alike, this is not a place for the faint-hearted – serious shoppers only!
