A cosmopolitan metropolis, Hong Kong Island also remains true to its Chinese roots with bustling markets and flamboyant festivals which teem with life and colour.
Historical Building
To savour Macau’s unique ancestry pay a visit to Leal Senado, the most important historical building on the peninsula and home to the decadent senate chamber and a wonderful library collection of 15th- and 16th-century books. Admission is free.
World Heritage status
Since July 2005 the historic centre of Macau has held UNESCO World Heritage status and it’s well worth spending some time here to savour the unique fusion of eastern and western influences. A–Ma Temple is a great place to start, and reportedly the site of early Portuguese landings.
Macanese cuisine
Not surprisingly, Macanese cuisine blends Chinese and Portuguese: try A Lorcha, Litoral or O Porto Interior restaurants.
