The tip of the peninsula is known as Tsim Sha Tsui, or ‘sharp, sandy point’ and is home to Hong Kong’s most famous street, Nathan Road, the district’s main shopping and entertainment strip.
The southern end is called the ‘Golden Mile’ for the sheer volume (and wealth) of retail venues. If you want to take a break from shopping head to the Peninsula Hotel for afternoon tea – an elegant and interesting colonial landmark on the crossroads with Salisbury Road.
Harbour lights
Stroll Kowloon’s waterfront promenade for fabulous views across Victoria Harbour to Hong Kong Island, particularly spectacular at night when the reflections from the lights of the cityscape glisten across the water. The best views can be found for about 500 metres east of the Clock Tower, an antique monument once part of the old Kowloon Railway station, which now fronts the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
Chinese garden
Kowloon Park is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Tsim Sha Tsui. Inside you will find a sculpture garden, Chinese garden, children’s play areas, an aviary and sports facilities which include an Olympic-size swimming pool and Kung Fu corner – head here on Sunday afternoons for martial arts displays from local experts. The Park is also home to the Kowloon Mosque and Islamic Centre, one of the biggest mosques in Hong Kong and the main focal point for the Muslim population of Kowloon.

When the sun goes down, Hong Kong comes alive. Check out the major nightlife areas with bars and dance clubs, including Knutsford Terrace in Kowloon.
